Tuesday - Tune in and Teaser

Celine Dion - Because You Loved Me

While I waited, a thick mist drifted in and around me. The top of the wall disappeared, which was just as well. When you're tired and scared, thirty feet looks about the length of a football fields, and that can be pretty demoralizing. Scaling a wall happens one foothold and one handhold at a time. Thinking beyond that can weaken your resolve, and it's your will that gets you to the top as much as your muscles and climbing skills.

My boyfriend left yesterday to go back to the big ol' city and if I didn't feel so overflowing with love, I would feel devastated. Maybe I know I feel devastated somewhere deep inside, but he has such faith in our love and our relationship that even when I feel we struggled all week to communicate and connect, it took less than a one hour conversation - me bringing up all the feelings I have kept inside all week during our phone conversations and texts - for him to shrug and say he loves me. Really? To him, our disagreements are so minimal and to me, each painful comment is a knife in my heart. I find it so refreshing that no matter what we go through he is so calm about the whole thing. He always knows we are good. One thing to look forward to is learning this technique from him.

This song must have something to do with the way I feel -

Undress Me in the Temple of Heaven
by Susan Jane Gillman

The day went so well at first. I rented a bicycle and went to the Grand Hotel Beijing and had tea okay? Proper tea like they might serve at the Plaza. They serve it with cream and gingerbread, and you sit in western chairs and listen to classical music, and it's clean and warm and quiet and it feels so civilized. Civilized and elegant, no one is spitting. Nobody's frying vegetables in the gutter. And the waiter speak English. And then? Then I biked over to the Main Post Office, by Tiananmen, and put in a collect call to home.

I rented the new Footloose and though I enjoyed it, it wasn't as good as the original. All the characters I preferred from the first one even the preacher, but Dennis Quaid was good. I absolutely love Willis!

A Walk in the Woods
Bill Bryson

"When guys in campflauge pants and hunting hats sat around in the Four Aces Diner talking about fearson things done out-of-doors, I would not longer have to feel like such a cupcake. I wanted a little of that swagger that comes with being able to gaze at a far horizon through eyes of chipped granite and say, a slow, manly sniff, "Yeah, I've shit in the woods."

Out of nowhere I started singing this song at work. I couldn't stop. It was in my blood. And all anyone could say was, "That is the saddest song." But it's also incredibly beautiful. So I bought it on iTunes.

Pearl Jam - Last Kiss

Wild

by Cheryl Strayed

The trees were tall, but I was taller standing on a steep mountain slope in Northern California. Moments before, I'd removed my hiking boots and the left one had fallen into the trees, first catapulting into the air when my enormous backpack toppled onto it, then skittering across the gravelly trail and flying over the edge. It bounced off a rocky outcropping several feet beneath me before disappearing into the forest canopy below, impossible to retrieve. I let out a stunned gasp, though I'd been in the wildness thirty-eight days and by then I'd come to know that anything could happen and everything would. But that didn't mean I wouldn't be shocked when it did.

Sitting here in bed trying to think of one of the songs I have Shazam'd in the past couple of days. There have been more than a few. Meanwhile this song is rotating around in my thick skull.

Lady Gaga - The Edge of Glory

Lady Gaga really is amazingly talented. I love how different she is and so wonderful that she doesn't care she is who she is!! Can you imagine what the video would look like if Janet Jackson or Gloria Estefan had done it?

With her mind tangled by these questions, Tally put her foot wrong. The sole of one shoe slipped from a thick cable coated in slick plastic, sending her flailing legs away from the tower, yanking her hands from their grip on a strut that was still wet with dew. Tally tumbled downward, the feeling of free fall surging through her body, familiar from all the times she had wiped out on a hoverboard or thrown herself from the top of a building.

An incredibly beautiful song played during the Oscars that falls in the background. My niece used to sing this when she was younger. I think they sang it in a class when she was in elementary school. I just remember her cute Minnie Mouse voice singing this.

Coop
A Year of Poultry, Pigs and Parenting
by Michael Perry

"We are going rural in hope that we might become more self sufficient in terms of firewood, an expanded garden and perhaps a pair of pigs. Whether through prescience or too much nervous reading, we have developed a low-key doomsday mind-set regarding the imminent future, and we believe the time has come to store up some potatoes and teach our young'uns how to forage."

YO TUESDAY!! It's been a few weeks since I have participated. Last week I really wanted to post a Whitney Houston song, but alas, it has been INSANE. I have been working long 10+ hour work days due to inventory. I have driven to other cities to help them with their inventory. I have been whipping my store and my people into shape. Along with us hiring like six new people who I have been mercilessly training. Poor lasses!

On continuous loop when I remember to push the play button!
It Will Rain by Bruno Mars

Reading a really fantastic book right now and so many more I want to check out from work, but with inventory I cannot. I am so excited for Butterfly Clues by Kate Ellison and Fever by Lauren DeStefano and The Miseducation of Cameron Post by Emily M Danforth. OMG the list goes on and on.

The Witch's Daughter
by Paula Brackston

"Now roll it up and come and stand beside me close to the fire. First, I will say a prayer to speak to those who might linger between worlds. If I help them to find their true home, they may help us when our moment comes. After that, we will consign your writing to the flames."

When The Lights Go Down In the City by Journey
If you work in retail, my heart goes out to you. Holiday is not the worst time of the year for customer service people . . . it is the time right after. When we get these stray people who seem to think if they yell and scream and throw a fit, we will miraculously change the corporation's store policies to suit their needs. Instead of trying to be civil and/or being aware of the return policies, they choose to be hateful and ruin everyone else's day. Sorry, tough day.
This song was in my head when I got home.

"Here we had this incredible tool at our disposal with the Internet. We had search. We had wikis. We had all the social networking tools. We had micro-lending and personalized charity. But poverty wasn't going away. If anything, the internet was widening the gap between rich and poor."

Harvey Danger, I'm Not Sick, but I'm Not Well -

The french chefs always gave me a hard time for being slow, but I would rather be slow and get it right. But they were always on my bollucks anyway. About three months in, there was a terrible scene involving a plate of ravioli. The ravioli in question were more like dim sum - made without an egg yolk. Robuchon got a hold of the plate, and threw it at me. It hit the side of my face. My ear was blocked with hot food, my face was burnt, and there was ravioli all over the place.

I have been singing this song since I walked in the cafe and found one of our baristas mopping the floor. I'm on the hunt for the DVD version.

It's a Hard Knock Life from the movie, Annie

She was familiar enough with the meaning of this new, and misplaced, noise. Or at least with what it signified. She had been hearing sounds, or seeing colors, or smelling smells like this for years. For as long as she could remember.
Echos, she called them.

Another fantabulous song by Journey - Faithfully

A plan was beginning to form in the silence. It was a crazy plan, and Mikey tried to push it away, but it kept building. He thought of home, told himself he should have a kick-about in the courtyard with Holly to make up for not taking her to school, told himself to get some shopping done in case Mum forgot. But the plan wouldn't go away. His family would have to manage - he couldn't look after them all the time. "You busy tonight?"

Here's an oldie, but goodie!! It's from the 70s, actually the year I was born. It is one of the first songs I ever heard working in retail on the one CD they sent to our store each month and we played it til the next month CD came. I knew this song by heart in less than a week. You can imagine how often we hear the same songs when there is only one CD for the entire month in a store. But I loved this song then and I love it now!!

Alicia Bridges - I love the nightlife

Uh, wow. Chase was actually kinda hot.

I mean, if you went for the whole bad boy thing. Which I totally didn't. Bad boys were bad, and I'd had enough bad boyfriend to last me a lifetime, thank you very much.

This song is on constant loop on my itunes. It is really sad and I can understand the love and loss she feels in this song, even with the amazing relationship I am in. It is just such a hauntingly beautiful song.

Adele - Someone Like You

"The boy kneeledlike he was going to start exercising right there in the dust. The place where he had spilled his cup was completely dry; I couldn't even tell it had been wet. I could see the elastic bad of his underwear and the smooth skin where his back was exposed. NO marks, scratches or scabs of any kind. My own hands looked like some kind of treasure map, except the lines didn't lead to riches."
