Okay so I really enjoy this particular series. It is fun, imaginative, occasionally romantic, but really it is just a great break from reality. It is the epitome of a day off book; so light and airy. This one followed up nicely, but for the first time I had an inkling of where it was going and what was happening. It felt a little rush with less detail and story than the last couple books. Some really cool secrets were revealed in this book that kept it going for me. Didn't get to see as much of my favorite character, her vampire friend and roommate at Hex Hall. It also had less history and more everyday stuff which, I thought, took away from it a bit. The great thing about this series is reminds me of the books I read growing up like The Babysitters Club. They make me feel good, I like to research the secret and feel a part of the story. At this point, the books can go anywhere, it will be fun to see what happens to Sophie and whether or not they get more action packed and unexpected, though I do not see another one in the making as of yet.

Review of Demonglass

Summary -
Just as Sophie Mercer has come to accept her extraordinary magical powers as a demon, the Prodigium Council strips them away. Now Sophie is defenseless, alone, and at the mercy of her sworn enemies—the Brannicks, a family of warrior women who hunt down the Prodigium. Or at least that’s what Sophie thinks, until she makes a surprising discovery. The Brannicks know an epic war is coming, and they believe Sophie is the only one powerful enough to stop the world from ending. But without her magic, Sophie isn’t as confident.

Sophie’s bound for one hell of a ride—can she get her powers back before it’s too late?

Review - Demonglass by Rachel Hawkins

Rachel Hawkins, you are so not my favorite person right now! I just finished Demonglass and if you don't come out with the next one right quick, I'll have to come find you. I prefer books that end in happiness and resolutions are come to, but this book left me wanting SO much more. I need to know what happens. GRRR! I don't want to spoil it for anyone, so I'll stop there.

I seem to be saying this alot lately, but I LOVED this book!! It was so good. Such a page turner. Read it in half a day and wished it had kept going. Usually the second books in a series and not so great. They stilt and slow down, where as the first books just plug along excitement after excitement. This book was not like that. It did have a slow start, but quickly picked up and rolled along. There were new ideas, new characters and it kept the wonderful feeling of adventure and fun from the first book, Hex Hall.

Rachel Hawkins does an incredible job of making her character Sophie be the ultimate in relate-able teens. Her manner of speaking and thinking is just so human like. It's fantastic. I can relate to this character so well, I feel almost like it could be me. (if I was a demon) Jenna, Cal, Archer all the characters she has developed within this series are so easy to like and even those I don't want to like, I like. I feel so much like I did back in high school. Those feelings of lose, love, frustration, trying to fit in, jostling friends and boys. I felt for Sophie's insecurities, but she is such a strong girl that I was excited for her too. The choice of good versus evil and trying to figure out who is good and who isn't while competing with her insides of love and friendship. Such good stuff.

And I just love the covers of the books. They are so magnificently done.

Sigh, the Hex Hall series is truly fun.

Review - Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins

I have been waiting to read Hex Hall for quite some time now. Sadly, I was number 3 on the wait list for this book from the digital library. One of the drawbacks to not just buying it. BUT I loved it!! So worth the wait.

This was such a fun book to read. It was entertaining and a different twist to the teen paranormal books I have read.

The main character Sophie has made some bad choices in life and has been sentenced to attend the school for witches, warlocks and other such paranormal people who could use some help blending in with humans. While at the school she encounters some not so nice girls who want her to join their coven and a really good looking warlock who may not be what he seems. Each of these characters was well scripted and I felt they just flowed into the story nicely. I wanted to know more and more about them. My favorite, and one I wished I had read more of, was her roommate the vampire, Jenna. She had a great sense of humor and I loved the bond they formed.

I wanted to be a girl who attended this school. Books that make me think about the choice between good and evil are a great play on real life. I believe that both reside within each of us and enjoy walking in others shoes and following what they would do. This book does a good job of playing up the choices we face. Even with all the evil lurking around Hex Hall, Rachel Hawkins just made these characters sensationally interesting. I really enjoyed the twist at the end too - though I refuse to ruin it by revealing it.

I just simply did not want to put this book down. I wanted to continue devouring it. If you are going on vacation or just looking for a fun, easy book to read - THIS IS IT!

Now am so excited to read the next installment of Hex Hall Series, DemonGlass.

Don't you just love the covers? They are so inviting and make me want to read these books.
