Tuesday - Tune In & Teaser

Out of nowhere I started singing this song at work. I couldn't stop. It was in my blood. And all anyone could say was, "That is the saddest song." But it's also incredibly beautiful. So I bought it on iTunes.

Pearl Jam - Last Kiss

Wild

by Cheryl Strayed

The trees were tall, but I was taller standing on a steep mountain slope in Northern California. Moments before, I'd removed my hiking boots and the left one had fallen into the trees, first catapulting into the air when my enormous backpack toppled onto it, then skittering across the gravelly trail and flying over the edge. It bounced off a rocky outcropping several feet beneath me before disappearing into the forest canopy below, impossible to retrieve. I let out a stunned gasp, though I'd been in the wildness thirty-eight days and by then I'd come to know that anything could happen and everything would. But that didn't mean I wouldn't be shocked when it did.

Sitting here in bed trying to think of one of the songs I have Shazam'd in the past couple of days. There have been more than a few. Meanwhile this song is rotating around in my thick skull.

Lady Gaga - The Edge of Glory

Lady Gaga really is amazingly talented. I love how different she is and so wonderful that she doesn't care she is who she is!! Can you imagine what the video would look like if Janet Jackson or Gloria Estefan had done it?

With her mind tangled by these questions, Tally put her foot wrong. The sole of one shoe slipped from a thick cable coated in slick plastic, sending her flailing legs away from the tower, yanking her hands from their grip on a strut that was still wet with dew. Tally tumbled downward, the feeling of free fall surging through her body, familiar from all the times she had wiped out on a hoverboard or thrown herself from the top of a building.

Beautiful song I heard today on the radio.

"Well you'd better be taking me back to where you found me now. My . . . very large man friend is waiting for me there. He's very scary and . . . . kill-happy," I added, repeating the phrase I'd heard the gang use.

When The Lights Go Down In the City by Journey
If you work in retail, my heart goes out to you. Holiday is not the worst time of the year for customer service people . . . it is the time right after. When we get these stray people who seem to think if they yell and scream and throw a fit, we will miraculously change the corporation's store policies to suit their needs. Instead of trying to be civil and/or being aware of the return policies, they choose to be hateful and ruin everyone else's day. Sorry, tough day.
This song was in my head when I got home.

"Here we had this incredible tool at our disposal with the Internet. We had search. We had wikis. We had all the social networking tools. We had micro-lending and personalized charity. But poverty wasn't going away. If anything, the internet was widening the gap between rich and poor."

Tuesday - Tune In & Teaser

I have been singing this song since I walked in the cafe and found one of our baristas mopping the floor. I'm on the hunt for the DVD version.

It's a Hard Knock Life from the movie, Annie

She was familiar enough with the meaning of this new, and misplaced, noise. Or at least with what it signified. She had been hearing sounds, or seeing colors, or smelling smells like this for years. For as long as she could remember.
Echos, she called them.

Tuesday - Tune In & Teaser

The other day at work this song popped in my head and I couldn't get rid of it. I swear I have a constant movie soundtrack playing in my head with the pictures and everything. I really am still humming it. For days people. It is featured in the movie Life or Something Like It with Angelina Jolie. There is a HILARIOUS part in there where they show her singing this song, absolutely plastered with no background music and on the air.

Rolling Stones - I Can't Get No Satisfaction

Here is the part of the movie I love - (it's about 2min in to clip)

(way more than 2 sentences. sigh. oh well)

"Farmer John cleared the light dusting of snow off the chopping block, and I laid the hen down sideways. She didn't squirm or try to right herself. Perhaps the vodka was working as intended. John used both of his hands to hold her body in place while I used my left hand to gently hold her head. I was sure to cover the one eye that was looking up at me, Even though I knew her prehistoric brain was unable to add two and two together to understand that she was about the undergo division. I didn't want the swinging hatchet to be the lasting thing she saw."

Some days I am angry for no reason. I don't want to be nice or understanding. I want to tell people to stop whining and get over it. Everyone's life is tough. And this song is perfect for those days!

Bitch Meredith Brooks

"Faith and science, I have learned are two sides of the same coin, separated by an expanse so small, but wide enough that one side can't see the other. They don't even know they are connected."

Come on girls, all together now, SING YOUR HEART OUT!!!
"Til now I always got by on my own . . . ."

"The envy was going to eat her alive. How crazy was that? Never for one second had Keri ever though she'd be envious of a woman who was a bundle of insecurities - whose career consisted of laundry and carpooling, and who had give birth to four walking, talking, weapons of mass destruction."

Tune In Tuesday

A weekly feature hosted by me that showcases music - my other passion in life besides books! Each week I will post a new or old song in hopes to gain more interest. Help me in spreading the love of music!

This week features a song I play over and over again, to my hearts content and if you ever hear me singing in my car, I deeply apologize. This song almost always comes on the radio right before I walk into work.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
"A hundred different things surround me: shards of a destroyed wooden jewelry box, some cracked CDs, a few ripped books, a shredded picture of Connor and me. I think my insides look like they do, all churned up and cracked and unrecognizable."
-- From But I Love Him by Amanda Grace
