Wordless Wednesday - deer

I was sitting there brushing my teeth watching my cat, watch outside. She was all peaceful with her eyes all closed as she breaths deeply when all of a sudden she stands straight up and is on edge like she wants to leap out the window. I get up and slowly come around only to see this -

a family of deer walking outside my window. There is three of them on the opposite side of the road and the one in the middle of the road. They are casually getting ready to cross the road and then the cars come around and the one gets spooked and runs. I couldn't get a picture fast enough, but I couldn't believe how big they are. I didn't realize. And oh so beautiful.

I saw this family earlier in the week, but they were across the lake and I could barely make them out with my camera lens, so I am excited to know that this will be an occurrence I need to keep an eye out for. I am still getting used to the new camera lens (canon 55-250mm zoom) that I got for Christmas. The focus is interesting and I may have to read the instructions. (lol)

And then of course, whatever bird this is was taking a breather on the iced over lake.

Great picks. I think your large bird is a blue heron.

I very rarely capture them like that either. Once in a while a flash of tail as they run across the road. You're lucky to see them like that!

Absolutely gorgeous nature pictures. How wonderful to be able to look out your window and see that!

"That's the biggest dog I've ever seen!" kitty is probably thinking.
I think ktmoxie is right -- a blue heron.

Wonderful pics!
